But even when people have a history of comfortable dental care, there are some procedures, such as oral surgery, where they don't want to be aware of what is going on. This is most often what people prefer for the surgical placement of dental implants.

Dr. Thein Offers Oral Sedation Dentistry Dr. Thein understands this anxiety and wants you to be comfortable during dental care. Accordingly, he offers several options that are available to help you deal with potentially uncomfortable dental care. One of the easiest and least expensive options is oral sedation dentistry. The medication is triazolam. And, because he feels it is important for your well-being, he offers it for no extra charge.

It really doesn't take any extra work for him to perform sedation dentistry. He simply gives you a prescription for two triazolam tablets. You take one the night before to help insure that you get a good night's sleep. You take the other at the beginning of the appointment.

You do need to arrange for someone to bring you to the dental appointment and to take you home afterward.

During the appointment, you will be monitored with a sophisticated pulse oximeter to make sure that you aren't over-sedated. The risk of that is actually very tiny, as triazolam is a very predictable and safe medication. It creates a relaxed state called conscious sedation. You aren't asleep, but are so comfortable and relaxed that you may not even remember your appointment.

This technique is therefore excellent for people undergoing stressful dental work, or simply people who want to get as much dental work done as possible in one appointment. Since your comfort is taken care of by the sedation, Dr. Thein can work efficiently and can get a great deal done in one appointment.

IV Sedation Dentistry Is Also Available

If you want a deeper level of sedation, we can also do intravenous sedation in our office. The oral sedation is more convenient and can be done for no charge. But you can consciously fight off the effects of triazolam. So for higher levels of patient anxiety, IV sedation may be what you would like. Our office has a board-certified anesthesiologist available who provides the deep sedation and monitors your vital signs during the procedure.
